Slayer is considered one of the ” big four ” in thrash metal, together with Anthrax, Metallica, Megadeth and has already received six Gold certifications by the Recording Industry Association of America. In spite of everything, Slayer decided to continue, and in September 2015 they released their latest studio album, Repentless, which reached the band’s best position in the United States (4th place) and topped the charts in Germany. In 2013 the band underwent changes in formation, with the return of Paul Bostaph to the drums and the death of guitarist and founder Jeff Hanneman. In 2009 World Painted Blood was released, which obtained a high number of sales worldwide and earned a Gold record in Poland. Christ Illusion (2006) marked the return of the original line-up and was very successful in North America, debuting in fifth place on the US charts, in addition to winning two Grammy awardsin 20. Bostaph left the band due to an injury and was replaced by former member Lombardo. Diabolus in Musica (1998) was criticized for its experimental features, while God Hates Us All (2001) created controversy for its graphic art, but remains one of the quartet’s heaviest records. ġ994’s Divine Intervention, the first album featuring Bostaph’s participation, debuted in eighth place on the US charts, the band’s best rating in the country so far. After the album was released, Lombardo left Slayer and was replaced by Paul Bostaph. After South of Heaven (1988), Slayer signed with Rubin’s new label, Def American, and released Seasons in the Abyss (1990). The album helped leverage Slayer’s career, resulting in his entry to the Billboard 200for the first time, reaching number 94. The band then signed a contract with Def Jam Recordings of Rick Rubin, who produced Reign in Blood (1986). Slayer’s first two albums, Show no Mercy (1983) and Hell Awaits (1985), which were released by Metal Blade Records, were not classified in the United States. Slayer was formed in 1981 by guitarists Kerry King and Jeff Hanneman, who recruited vocalist and bassist Tom Araya, and drummer Dave Lombardo. This list does not include extra material recorded by members or former members of Slayer, who have already recorded with Whiplash, Exodus, Fantômas, Grip Inc. The band has released eleven studio albums, two EPs, two live albums, two box sets, a tribute album, four DVDs, seventeen singles, and nine music videos.
